Parents' Handbook
Uniform & Kit
The school has a clear uniform policy to encourage children to take pride in their appearance and school identity. Children are expected to abide by the uniform rules on all occasions, unless otherwise directed.
New Uniform Shop
Our official uniform supplier is Schoolblazer and their online shop can be found here: www.Schoolblazer.com
Hair
Hair should be worn in a neat style which is practical and safe for school activities. Hair must be clean, tidy and in keeping with the formality of the school. Pupils with longer than collar length hair must wear it all tied back. Slides and ribbons should be plain and in school colours only (blue or red).
Shoes
All children should wear plain black shoes for daywear that are suitable for school (i.e. lace-ups or shoes with a bar across the foot). No trainer style, heeled, fashion shoes, shoes with embellishments (leather flowers etc.) are permitted. Children should have trainers for sports activities. Black soled shoes are not permitted in the sports hall. (Pre-Prep children have one pair of trainers only and they should have no embellishments or flashing lights).
Jewellery
Jewellery, nail varnish or cosmetics are not permitted. Only one pair of plain stud earrings is permitted. These will need to be taped up when playing games.
Nearly New Uniform Shop (NNUS)
This is run by parents for parents by the Prince’s Mead Association (PMA). The Nearly New Uniform Shop recycles good quality uniform at affordable prices. The shop is located in Worthy Park House (the main school building), to the right of the Portico, and opening times are published on the school calendar, and in the weekly e-newsletter, 'The Link'.
If you would like to donate used items of uniform, please bring them into the School Reception at any time. If commission stickers are completed and attached to your items, up to 50% of the sale price will be returned to you. The commission stickers are available to download here. Funds raised are used to purchase additional ‘icing on the cake’ items, in line with the school’s needs.
Summer & Winter Uniform
Summer and winter uniform can be worn at the following times:
Summer Uniform
First half of Autumn and all Summer Term.
Winter Uniform
Autumn and Spring Term.
Best Uniform
The school blazer may be worn every day. However, it must be worn by children in the Prep School (from Year 3 upwards) each Friday, on formal occasions, and on school trips where communicated. Details are found in the uniform list on our school website.
Water Bottles
All children should bring their own water bottle into school. Children are allowed to drink from their water bottles at any time they wish. All water bottles should be clearly labelled with the child's name.
Wellington Boots
Every child in the school is expected to have a pair of named Wellington boots in the school during the Michaelmas and Lent Terms. Depending upon the weather, children are expected to wear these at every break, so they can enjoy the mud outside.
Labelling Possessions
It is essential that everything a child brings into school is labelled clearly with their name, particularly all clothing, footwear and watches. The PMA have teamed up with Stikins Name Labels and they receive a 15% commission from orders of name labels - you simply need to quote our fundraising number 16176 at the checkout. We advise all children not to bring in any valuable possessions.
Stationery List
Please ensure your child comes to school with the stationery listed on our school website. All items should be clearly named. During Year 4, children will graduate to using a pen. Form teachers will determine when this happens. Our recommended handwriting pen is detailed on the stationery list on our school website. When children achieve their Pen Licence they have the right to write in pen, during any lesson, with the exception of Mathematics which must be in pencil.
Lost Property
Lost property can be found in Worthy Park House outside 2H (turn left at the front desk, go past the Head's Study, Art Room, and 2T, carry on down the stairs and the lost property cabinet will be on your right). Year 6 prefects are responsible for going through the lost property and returning named items to their owner. At the end of each term, unclaimed items are given to the Nearly New Uniform Shop, if in reasonable condition, or taken to a charity shop.
