Co-Curricular

Clubs

We are proud to offer a significant selection of break, lunchtime and after-school activities and a full list is published each term. All will commence on the first week of term unless otherwise indicated. These extra-curricular clubs and activities give children a breadth of skills which help them to develop as rounded individuals and will also help support their future school’s portfolio. The Co-Curricular programme is aimed at teaching a variety of skills to a wide range of ages. Clubs are run on a termly basis and vary each term. Many of the clubs are run by Prince’s Mead staff, and others by visiting specialists in their field, and incur a charge which will be added to your school fee bill.

Clubs can be accessed through the Clubs Portal (SOCS). All clubs and activities finish at 5.10pm, unless otherwise stated. Please ensure you are available to collect your child from school at this time if they are not due to travel home on the late afternoon minibus.

No after-school clubs are compulsory but children are encouraged to choose from the selection of clubs to further stimulate their interests outside of the classroom.

Allocation of Places

Extra-curricular clubs, prep and Tea-time club places are booked each term via the Clubs Portal (SOCS). Details are sent to you by email during the second half of each term. Club places are assigned using a random method that takes account of your child’s order of preference. Provided you submit your club choices within the submission window, your child will be considered for a club alongside everyone else.

Clubs will only take place if there are sufficient numbers of children to participate. We will notify you if a club has to be cancelled due to lack of demand and a list of those clubs with remaining spaces will be made available for your consideration.

Making Changes to Your Child's Club Schedule

Whilst we will always try to help parents with late changes that arise from unforeseen or unavoidable circumstances, we ask that you keep these changes to a minimum and consider your child’s other external club options and those of siblings before committing to a school club.

Children are able to unsubscribe from a club after attending one session if they don't like it and you will not be billed. If they want to unsubscribe from a club after a few weeks you will still be billed.

Please email any changes to busesandclubs@princesmeadschool.org.uk before 12.00pm on the day of change.

Break and Lunchtime Clubs

Only after-school clubs need to be booked through the online booking system. Teachers will notify children of break and lunchtime clubs in each term.

Prep and Tea-Time Club

There is no limit to the number of children that can be accommodated in Prep and Tea-time club. However, if you are planning to use the Prep and Tea-time club on a regular basis we ask that you book your child in for the term. We understand that this selection may occasionally change, depending upon your circumstances, but we would ask that these changes are kept to a minimum.

Commitment to Clubs

Once your child commences an activity we would encourage them to continue with it for a full term. Refunds will not be available if your child does not attend once they have been given a place since expenditure may already have been incurred based on numbers confirmed. Refunds are not given for absence or illness.

Pre-Prep Clubs

You will see that fewer after-school clubs are available for Reception to Year 2. Please be reassured that this has been considered at length by the Senior Leadership Team. In our experience, children can often become too tired from attending after-school clubs and they may suffer as a result. However, there will be much in store for them as they work their way up the school!

Sports Fixtures

When choosing activities please be aware that school sports fixtures for Years 5 & 6 usually take place on a Wednesday afternoon and, for Years 3 & 4, on a Thursday afternoon. Scheduled fixtures are published on the school calendar but are subject to change. There is a good chance that your child will miss some weeks of their chosen activity if fixtures do not finish or return in time and no refunds will be given in these instances.

Residentials

All children in Years 3 to 6 are offered the chance to attend an annual residential trip. Residentials take place during the Summer term with the exception of the Year 5 trip to Mt. Snowdon which takes place in Michaelmas. You will be invited to attend a parent presentation evening ahead of each residential trip, usually held in January.

Collection of Children

Children must be collected by a responsible person and will not be released to anyone unknown to the staff without prior instructions from you. Club providers will not let children leave the premises escorted by a person under the age of 18 unless they have written permission from you.
